The Squeaky Wheel...

...gets the grease...
Yes, I am speaking of myself. If there is one lesson I have learned during this deployment, it is how to be the "squeaky wheel" so things get done! It is not always my disposition to be what I consider "pushy" but when it comes to certain aspects of my life, I have realized it is really the only way to make sure some people do what you pay them to do! Fortunately, I have squeaked to the right people this week and have resolved some big problems (hopefully!)
On Tuesday, I flew to NC and inspected the house. It is beautiful and beyond what the pictures I have previously posted convey. There were some things that needed to be fixed but overall, it truly took my breath away to think about this house being ours! The houses on each side of us are complete with new neighbors waiting for us to meet! They are breaking ground on lots across the street, so I expect we will have construction for the first several months of living in the neighborhood. The pool, playground, and walking trail are great and we can't wait to use them! Painters are painting a few rooms for us next weekend and four weeks from today, we are saying goodbye to Nashville. (Yes, that's when the real work begins...I get stressed just thinking about another move, and this one is out-of-state!)
Chad seems to be doing good...tired of the ship and ready to be home, but good. Not a problem, we are ready for him to be home, too! The kids are hanging in there, but the excitement over dad's return, the signs we plan to make for the airport, and their individual "dates" with dad is building! Dad's return is the source of many conversations, but Graham stills wants to know "why dad has been at work so long?" Courtney spends her free time writing Chad emails; they have developed a long list of things they will do together when he is home. She is a gifted writer and when I read her words written to her daddy, I end up with tears and a smile--every time! Hunter shows his pride in Chad by working out hard so he can be in the Navy, keeping his hair cut SHORT, and recently, by designing his "AR" brick at Granbery as a tribute to Chad. When the brick is complete, I will take pictures and post it...it really is one of the most touching things Hunter has ever done!
And I spend a lot of time thinking about all this year has brought to our family and how God has sustained me during trials I thought would not pass or I could not survive. There have been days I did not feel He was near, but knowing He was and that I needed to trust Him was enough to carry me through. He has used the most unique people this year to touch our lives and not always the ones we would have expected. Many people have done what they consider "simple" things, but given the right circumstances, those "simple" gifts provided comfort, encouragement, and new friendships. These people have reminded me of the importance of touching lives in ways I can and as the Lord leads me. We never really know how a simple act of kindness, even to a stranger, can impact their day or their life. I have been on the receiving end of such kindnesses this year and I am thankful for each person who showed me and the kids compassion during what has been a trying year.
